Clubs and Societies Showcase

Alice Gilbert provides a round-up of what to expect at the Clubs and Societies Showcase this Tuesday. 

Today a variety of UoN’s clubs and societies took part in a showcase in the Auchmuty Courtyard, but for those of you that missed it, never fear!  They’ll be back again on Tuesday, March 11 between 11am and 2pm.

Here are some of the social and sporting clubs and societies that you can expect to see.

FEAST (Food, Expression, Art, Song, Thought)
Who are they? A club for those budding creatives out there, as well as anyone mildly interested in the creative arts, delicious food, or thought-provoking discussion.  Winner of the 2013 UoN Club of the Year Award.

The Goonion
Who are they? The uni’s biggest non-faculty-specific student group – aiming to provide opportunities to party and enjoy the uni experience through small and large-scale social events throughout the year.

The Vegetarian Club
Who are they? A club that provides healthy and delicious lunch options on campus and promotes ethical food choices.

Who are they? A student-run society for all levels of dramatic experience to express themselves creatively through writing, performance, design and production in an encouraging and liberal environment.

Dance Collective
Who are they? A club for anyone interested in dance – from hip-hop to ballet; beginner to expert.  Workshops and social events are offered throughout the year.

UoN Philosophy Society
Who are they? A social group for philosophy students, other students, and basically anyone with an opinion to air, to take part in friendly philosophical discussion on all sorts of topics.

University of Newcastle Islamic Society (UNIS)
Who are they? A group for Islamic students studying at UoN, as well as anyone interested in gaining as insight into Islamic life and traditions.

Newcastle Christian Students
Who are they? A student group for Christians from all walks of life.

Newcastle University Bible Study
Who are they? A group for like-minded people interested in discussing the bible.  Social activities are offered throughout the year.

Who are they? A club for anyone who wants to socialise and learn about the environment and sustainability, as well as students looking for industry experience and volunteering opportunities.

Oxfam at UoN
Who are they? Oxfam is an international non-government organisation that aims to realise a world without poverty through grassroots and bottom-up approaches.

Red Cross
Who are they? An international organisation providing relief to people around the world in times of crisis.

Queer Collective
Who are they? A social group for any queer students interested in participating in social events, meetings and working with the queer community.  The university Queer Space is based in the NUSA building.

Robogals Newcastle
Who are they? A club that offers workshops, talks and social events on science, engineering and IT, with a particular focus on encouraging females to pursue careers in these industries.

Student Life
Who are they? A group for Christian students to explore spiritual things and grow in their faith.

University of Newcastle Law Students Association (UNLSA)
Who are they? A student association that aims to provide law students with study aids, social events, competitions, publications and a variety of law events throughout the year.

Australia China Youth Association at UoN (ACYA)
Who are they? An association aimed at developing cross-cultural connections between young Australians and Chinese on a social, academic, professional and educational level.

Malaysian Youth Society University of Newcastle (MYSUN)
Who are they? A group for Malaysian students studying at UoN.

Who are they? A group that aims to encourage and promote the safe pursuit of motorcycle related activities for UoN students.  A variety of riding and social events are offered throughout the year.

Who are they? A group for anyone interested in the world’s fastest racquet sport – all skill levels welcome.

Who are they? A social club that enters teams for competition in Newcastle – all skill levels welcome, male and female.

Who are they? A group for all cricket players and enthusiasts.
