That’s right folks, one of Newcastle’s very own is about to hit your TV screens as a contestant on Channel Ten’s ‘The Bachelorette’! Yak’s got an exclusive interview with the UON Bachelor.
Whilst, due to filming and privacy reasons, we aren’t allowed to reveal their identity quite yet, we do know that this third-year student will be searching for love in the upcoming season of ‘The Bachelorette‘. The twenty-three-year-old mystery man is set to appear on the Sixth Season of the popular reality TV show, competing with twenty-odd bachelors for the heart of one leading lady who is also yet to be revealed. Filming – assuming the season is to go ahead – is set to commence mid-June.
Yak’s got your exclusive interview with the man of the hour:
Yak: How did you find the application process?
Contestant: To be quite honest with you I found the whole process to be pretty enjoyable. Everyone throughout the interviews and testing were really fun and helpful. The weirdest part for me was definitely the photoshoots. Super awkward!
What made you decide to go on the show, and what are you hoping to get from being on it?Well, originally it was a bit of a joke between me and my roommates, it was either this or Tinder Premium – this seemed like the more plausible option… But once I made it through to the second stage of applications, I started to take it a bit more seriously when I realized this would actually be a good opportunity to meet someone genuine. I suppose I should be hoping to find some sort of love or at least some sort of ‘really like’?
You sound a little uncertain there. Are ready to fall in love?
Whilst I wouldn’t say it was something I had been consciously or actively seeking up until this point, I think it is something that most people would welcome into their lives if it was to show up?
Ah, so you believe in love at first sight?
Umm…I’m not sure I ‘believe’ in love at first sight, something like that just seems a bit too spiritual for me. I do think, however, that the first time you meet someone you will usually have a pretty good idea if they are likely to be someone you could potentially see yourself with.
So what characteristics does your ideal girlfriend have?
I mean apart from the standard characteristics of kind, funny, or I find them attractive?
I guess I like a smart girl with a quick wit, someone relatively sporty but not over the top. Past experiences would also point towards a brunette however this is subject to change. Also, just someone that is open-minded and willing to listen to others.
What’d be are your biggest deal breakers in a relationship then?
I think if one of us doesn’t feel comfortable being ourselves around the other it’s a bit of a no-deal. Personally, I try to communicate by being open and honest about everything but if that isn’t reciprocated it’s not really going to work.
In all of this, where do you see yourself five years in the future?
Given that I am soon to graduate I hope to be working professionally in the industry I have studied for which, unfortunately, due to a confidentiality clause, I cannot reveal. It would be nice to be doing this with a partner and it would also be around the time things like kids and weddings would be starting to come into the picture – assuming the world isn’t broken by then.
Alright, let’s move onto some question I know the girls on campus are dying to know about. What would your ideal date be?
I like to think I’m a pretty easy-going guy and that the details like the what and where are less important to me. I think the ideal date is just the opportunity to be able to do something you enjoy doing with someone you enjoy doing it with.
Now if we were to say that food was involved on this first date….
Well, I’d say that Italian food is the go-to, it seems like a bit of a crowd-pleaser. Plus, I do love to see a girl who can smash down a pizza or pasta.
Pretty sure you just won some hearts with that response. Tell us, what’s your go-to alcoholic beverage of choice?
Well just like the next bloke I don’t mind a beer or two (dozen) from time to time. If we’re supposed to be classing it up though I’d probably settle for a quiet espresso martini with the girls.
And if you had the chance to go out with anyone (living or dead) who would it be? (Be careful with that response – you know our readers will find our who you are eventually).I’ve always had a bit of a celebrity crush on Aubrey Plaza – whilst I don’t know if she would be the love of my life, I do think she would definitely make for an interesting date.
Now for a truly hard one – if you had to choose between saving the world, or saving the one you love, which would you choose?
That is a tough one. Whilst it’s very romantic to say the one you love, I also want to add that the sort of person that I think I would be into would call me an idiot for choosing them over the world. It’s just not practical.
Last question, we promise! Do you think you’ll win ‘The Bachelorette’? (If so, why?)
Do I think I’ll win? That’s an interesting question because it’s not like I want to win just for the sake of winning. It’s more, if I genuinely like the Bachelorette, that I hope I win.
Well, we don’t know about you, but we’re pretty convinced that this bachelor has a shot at winning the next bachelorette’s heart. It should come as no surprise following last year’s First Dates Australia – UON Auditions. What can we say? We love love.
Don’t forget that you can’t follow up on this story because it is an April Fools joke. Yeah, sorry about that. There are actually no UON contestants on ‘The Bachelorette‘ this season (to our knowledge, anyway). We hoped you enjoyed the read, though.
PS: Yeah, this was us, too.
