UON DJ Comp Drops Needle Tonight

3…2…1…the Heats are almost done. UON DJ Comp Heat 3 is tonight! Phoebe Metcalfe spins the fire info you need to know.
The fourth iteration of UONs DJ Comp is up to Heat 3 after two sweaty, sick, and groovy heats on Monday and Tuesday night. Run by Avid Entertainment, the exciting three-day live event follows last years online competition, and the energy and passion of the live entrants have so far been unmatched.
Tonight marks Heat 3 at Bar on the Hill from 7pm, where the top two contestants will join the winners from Heat 1 – SMILLZ and LACHY G, and winners from Heat 2 – GAKT and DJ TULAU, in the Grand Final in a fortnight.
SMILLZ returned in full fiery force to retain her 2020 champion title. You can watch her set from last year here!
Over the course of the three days, our home-grown talents are on for 10-12 minutes and are judged on their ability to play to a crowd, stage presence, creativity and flair, mixing skills, beat matching, phrasing, set structure, and audience engagement.
But it’s no ordinary DJ comp as the entrants are playing in front of industry judges. Avid Entertainment believes in increasing opportunities for university students within the music industry, so the judges for each heat are chosen based on the style of the nights’ DJs and the likelihood they’ll be hired by the judges.
The winner of the Grand Final will receive a press pack with Avid Entertainment, and headline a paid set on Autonomy Day 2021. The runners-up will also receive gig opportunities at the university, including playing live at the silent disco later in the year.
The five DJ’s battling it out on the desk tonight are:
KLAUS – Ben Dundon
XPOSED – Neil Broome
MICHAEL – Michael Feng
TOM KEMPE – Tom Kempe
HUGHESY – Alex Hughes
The FREE Grand Final battle of the beats will be held at Bar on the Hill Wednesday, May 5.
Can’t make it to the Grand Final? No stress, it will be live-streamed on the Avid Entertainment Facebook page.
But do stress, because now we can dance why wouldn’t you get your moves on?
