Get Tech Help at the New UON Tech Bar
Got Tech issues and not sure how to fix it? Don’t panic, Auchmuty has a new Tech Bar, Leanne Elliott tells us more.
All students know about the panic you get when your laptop or student account goes on the fritz, especially when you have an assessment due or need to send an important email. The frustration you feel when your password reset doesn’t go to plan or when you just cannot get your device to connect to the university Wi-Fi.
Well, panic no more. The Auchmuty Library has undergone some upgrades and refurbishments, including its’ very own Tech Bar. The new Tech Bar is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and can be found on level 3. It offers general tech advice and assistance on a range of issues, including:
- Installing University licensed software
- MyUON
- Office 365
- Zoom (advice and training)
- OneDrive (advice and training)
- OnePrint
- Adobe (basic issues)
- Hardware (basic issues)
- Sophos and Malware
There are two ways students can access the Tech Bar. Option one, you can join the queue by booking online or scanning the QR code at the library. This feature is easy to use and lets you see how many people are in the queue ahead of you. Option two, if you prefer be more organised, you can schedule an appointment.
It is worth noting that if you are taking a personal device to the Tech Bar they are only able to provide general advice. But, the Tech Bar staff are super friendly and will do what they can to help.
If your issue cannot be resolved at the Tech Bar the staff will log a service ticket for you so you continue receiving support from the appropriate IT Services team. Or, if you are one of those students who enjoys troubleshooting their own tech issues be sure to check out UON’s Service Now website where you can report issues, request a service or search the knowledge base.

The transformation of Auchmuty Library is part of the Universities’ current strategic plan. According to the Auchmuty website, “This set of new and refurbished spaces will better reflect the latest developments in technologies and study space design for our University community.”
These changes at Auchmuty include a new Wollotuka space which brings “the Indigenous Collection and dedicated consult space together. It also includes enhanced study spaces, dedicated content creation spaces, more group rooms, and extensions to the café area.
So, next time your “computer says no” or your account is giving you grief, jump in the queue or book an appointment at the Tech Bar, and why not grab a coffee at the café and make use of the new facilities while you are there!
