5 Things to do This Uni Break

Stress and fatigue taking toll as the semester comes to an end? Laura Rumbel has 5 tips to help you unwind over the winter break.
With Uni assessment deadlines fast approaching the end of semester stress is in full swing. But that also means winter semester break is just around the corner! Keep yourself feeling relaxed, social and fit these winter holidays with these 5 things to do during break.
1. SLEEP
Catching up on sleep these Uni holidays will definitely be in your best favour. During the assessment period, loss of sleep is guaranteed. Pushing through those late nights or early mornings studying, you’ll be ready for a long overdue sleep by the time winter break arrives.
2. CAFE DATES
Who doesn’t love going out for lunch? Maybe this winter break is your chance to try out a new café in Newcastle that you’ve been dying to try out but haven’t had the time (thanks Uni) or spend this free time catching up with a friend or family member at your favourite café . Hidden away in the Kotara Home Shopping Centre is XS Espresso, a small café with a big menu. I can guarantee you won’t leave this café without feeling satisfied, and maybe some drool when you see the food. From smashed avocado, to the ‘boss burger,’ to gnocchi, to biscoff pancakes, there’s a bit of everything offered on XS Espresso’s breakfast and lunch menu. If you are feeling extra adventurous, why not try one of XS Espresso’s milkshakes.

3. KEEP FIT
Enjoy Newcastle’s foreshore while exercising at the same time. There are plenty of walks you can do these winter holidays along Newcastle’s foreshore. Nobby’s break wall, Newcastle beach to the bogey hole or Bar beach to Merewether beach are all great tracks right by the water’s edge. If bush walking is more your style, then why not check out the walking trails at Glenrock Lagoon, located in Dudley. Don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll along Newcastle’s famous Anzac walk and enjoy the views of Merewether and Bar beach. Or why not make the most of the winter sun and plan a picnic at Hickson Street Lookout.
4. WINTER ACTIVITIES
Is it really winter if you don’t drink hot chocolates or sit by the bonfire? For hot chocolate lovers and chocolatiers in Newcastle, San Churro pull out all the stops when it comes to a good hot chocolate. Another option for those who would rather drink hot chocolate at home is to buy San Churro’s chocolate stick, which makes a sweet and creamy hot chocolate. Gather your friends and enjoy the winter night air by the bonfire with a hot chocolate in hand.
5. SET GOALS
When it comes to reaching dreams, setting goals is the first step to your success. Write your goals in a journal, on a word doc, on your phone, anywhere that will be a constant reminder of what it is that you are trying to achieve. Use the time during the winter break to really think about your goals, especially going into semester two.
